Tips in Cooking Safe in the Kitchen

Dangers in food does not result from eating or ingesting the food, some problems occur when the food is prepared or cooked in the kitchen. Remember that the kitchen probably has the most hazardous materials in the whole house, next to the yard of course. Cooking, when you come to think about it, poses a lot of danger to everyone. This is the time when you will be holding a knife, lighting a fire and risking your hand in grilling.

So what do you do to keep safe? Read on and you might learn a thing or two that would save your life in the future.

1. Put everything in its proper place

After using the utensils, make sure that you keep them all in their proper place. This ensures that the materials will not cause any accidents in the kitchen. If you have small children in the house, all the more that you should not let sharp objects lying around the area. Children are curious individuals. They will not be able to help themselves when they see the utensils, even if you told them a hundred times not to touch them.

2. Turn off

Make sure that you turn off every household and kitchen appliance after using it. Turning off and taking the cord off will not only save energy but will also ensure safety for all especially little children who loves to touch stuff. It will also prevent fire from starting. Take care also that you do not touch the cord while your hand is wet as you might get electrocuted.

One should not also forget to turn off the gas range as well as the griller. This is important as this is one of the usual causes of fire in the house.

3. Read the manual

Always know your machine from the inside out. All the information you need can be found on the manual. Read it from cover to cover but focus on the sections that highlight the dos and donts. This will make you more aware on what possible things can happen while using and not using your appliance.

Knowing what the function of your appliance and of course its limits will also help you determine what to use it for.

4. Don’t rush

Even if you are an expert cook, make sure that you do not rush head on. Take your time in preparing the ingredients. Do not cut the meat so fast as you might cut your hand in the process. Do not use shortcuts in using appliances. Not only will you cause breakage, you might also cause fire.

5. Put a medicine kit nearby

Forearmed is for forewarned. Put a medicine cabinet or kit inside the kitchen for easy access just in case something did happen. It is always good to be prepared in emergencies. Include plasters, burnt ointments and ointments for cuts. It is also good to place alcohol and gauzes just in case. Put it in one place and make sure that everybody in the family knows where it is located.

6. Slippery floor

Make sure that your floors are dry before going inside to cook. Slipping may not only cause you broken bones but may also cut you up if you happen to be carrying a sharp object when you fell.
